Welcome note

Greetings !

Welcome to the School of Economics, College of Business and Economics, University of Rwanda. Thank you for visiting our School Website which helps us to get news out of our School community as well as our departments, students, alumni, programs, and projects.

I want to introduce the School of Economics and tell you about our action plans for the future through my welcome message. We are very excited about the school and all that it has to offer to the students, the college and university in general. I am excited and proud to be part of this community and look forward to connecting with many of you in University of Rwanda.

Our working mission and vision statements capture fully what School of Economics is all about :
Undergraduate in a 3 year’s program
School of Economics comprises 2 departments that are hosted in the College of Business and Economics where I have spent most of my career as lecturer. The two departments have 3 options each as specialization. Actuarial Sciences, Demography and Economic Statistics in Applied Statistics Department and all recognized as STEM Programs ; Monetary Economics, Development Economics and International Economics in Economics Department. To be admitted in Applied statistics, you need to be a holder of two principal passes of which one in Mathematics with at least 24 points. To be admitted in Economics, A holder of two principal passes of which one in Mathematics with at least 18 points.

Postgraduate
For our postgraduate students we offer a MSc. With a focus on Applied Quantitative Economics program which develops skills in Economic reasoning and in constructing and estimating economic models using econometrics and other quantitative techniques. We also offer research program notably research seminars, research paper series, support in research writing skills, research strategy and guidelines, research study visits for UR lecturers to Germany, Student exchange to Kiel University for best performing students.
Under collaboration with Gothenburg University, Sweden and African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), we offer also a PhD by Coursework or by Research for 4 year’s period.

Both undergraduate and postgraduate programs are designed to help students develop the analytical skills necessary to gain a greater understanding of the private, nonprofit, and government sectors, and to help these sectors become better vehicles for improving society. This diversity in our offerings helps guarantee that our students can choose the program that best fits their needs and helps them achieve their future goals.

Actually, in both undergraduate and postgraduate categories we have about 1770 Students. If you are interested in preparing for a career cited above and wish for an excellent education in an excellent environment, you have found it. Welcome !
