Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) of Jönköping University, Sweden and the College of Business and Economics of the University of Rwanda, (UR-CBE), in their joint collaboration put in place an activity since 2014-2015 to promote the career development among the staff of UR-CBE. It awarded successfully 8 CDI grants in each of the activity years from 2014-2015 through 2017-2018. This call for proposals is the fifth and last one in the series. So far 32 CBE staff have taken this mentorship programme and published 20 papers in the standard refereed journals and book chapters.
The main objective of the Career Development Initiative (CDI) is to facilitate the CBE staff to improve their research and academic writing skills through mentorship by experienced experts of JIBS. It is mainly intended to infuse the CBE teaching staff with a strong commitment for writing research papers and publish them in internationally peer reviewed journals with a view to get promotion in their academic ladder. The Senior Lecturers to become Associate Professors and Associate Professors to become Full Professors require to publish in international peer reviewed journals. Therefore, CDI is a capacity building process where in at least 8 CBE Teaching Staff will be empowered annually to write and publish high quality papers.
This initiative has been meant for selecting eight (8) staff members through a systematic competition organized by the members representing CBE and JIBS. The award is tenable only for 6 months with mentorship by a JIBS professor, a training visit to JIBS for two weeks and followup by the mentor to empower the selectee to improve his or her writing and presentation skills. The eight successful candidates will be linked to senior researchers in JIBS for development of proposals into full and publishable research papers. The chances to win the competition lies in the submission of paper proposal in the format given, screening by the experts from the JIBS, matching with the expertise of JIBS, successful presentation of the proposals before a screening committee of CBE and the strong commitment and agreement to complete the process by meeting standards and the schedules.
Successful applicants will spend two weeks at JIBS in Sweden for intensive mentoring and while there they will have full access to the University’s research facilities. And there shall not be any other additional financial commitment on the side of university and UR- Sweden Programme. Afterwards, full research papers are expected from successful applicants for presentation in EABEW-4 (Eastern Africa Business and Economic Watch – 4th international conference) to be organized by both the institutions at UR-CBE in between April and June 2019. Papers presented at the conference will be considered for a special issue of a leading academic journal in the field and/or an edited book volume published by an international publisher.
